Douglas Gilliland - who claims to be a Christian - is a particularly rabid anti-Calvary Chapel "crusader" whose hatred is also targeted at churches, ministries and individuals associated with or supportive of Calvary Chapel.

While on the surface it may appear he has some legitimate concerns, posted at his Calvary Chapel FUAQ (Frequently Un-Asked Questions) page, his continuing ill - and un-Christlike - behavior in, among other places, the alt.religion.christian.calvary-chapel (arcc-c) newsgroup has caused Christians and non-Christians alike to disassociate themselves from him - or to post disclaimers like these:

Gilliland and the Passantinos are friends, but the Passantinos do not wish to be associated with and do not support his methods of ministry as seen in the calvary-chapel posts. The Passantinos and Doug also have significantly different views on a number of subjects. It would not be correct to presume that the Passantinos have the same viewpoints as Doug with respect to Calvary Chapel either.
John Baskette, of Answers in Action, answering a question on behalf of the Passantinos. On the AIA Message Board, June 26, 1998

Gilliland's antics have included the forging of posts under the name of one of his critics. While claiming to be a seminary student, his behavior is worse than that of many non-Christians. With no repentance in evidence, he continues to specialize in lying, deliberate misrepresentation, distortion of facts, gossip, and ad hominem attacks. (Note: The publisher of Apologetics Index is a frequent target of Mr. Gilliland's lies and distortions.)

Note: Gilliland's "questions" are adequately answered here

A warning regarding the newsgroup (primarily due to his language and actions, including - but not limited to - rudeness, name-calling, innuendo, gossip, and now forged messages) is posted here. See also the History of the ARCC-C Newsgroup, as provided by Calvary Chapel.

Dennis Hill, once a long-time participant of ARCC-C, was one of many Christians who used to alert newcomers to what is going on in the newsgroup - often by quoting others. An example is this message, archived by Google Groups.

In dealing with Mr. Gilliland, Christians are advised to remember what the Bible teaches:

Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. {24} And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. {25} Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, {26} and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
